There are four outstanding Shakespeare films in this set : Olivier’s Henry V and Hamlet, and Welles’ Othello and Macbeth. In addition, there is the Peter Brooke / Orson Welles TV version of King Lear, heavily abridged but full of directorial flair and insights, and the better than expected, lavishly filmed Romeo and Julie, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream ( with a wonderful turn from James Cagney ) from the 1930’s. These seven films alone more than justify this set . The only disappointment is the poor quality print of Charlton Heston’s Julius Caesar. Otherwise, if you love Shakespeare, if you love great movie making, if you love fine acting.this set is a palpable hit.
