『Never Let Me Go』は単純に見える物語だが、そこに徐々にあらわにされていくのは、驚くべき深さで共鳴する感情だ。カズオ・イシグロの最高作にあげられるだろう。

The novel puzzled me at the beginning on what it was talking about. Is it about the campus life of a boarding school in England? Why does it make no mention of their families, home leaves, and anything about the life outside the school? After having read it patiently for almost one third, I learned finally that its theme was the human clones programed for a single purpose; donation of their vital organs. It does not discuss anything about technical questions of producing human clones, ethics of human cloning, who are responsible for their production and donation and all other details. This work of Kazuo Ishiguro’s raises a question if those clones have human dignity with soul. Once human clones are produced for whatever purpose it may be, there will be no way to go back in the process of scientific development. Then, where are the differences or the lines of demarcation among us humankind, our clones, robots and cyborgs. Creation of life has been in God’s hand since the time
