Not even near the best of Grisham

Yes, in spite of the reviews quoted in the cover. The Testament is not even close to the best of Grisham. If you are new to Grisham, stop, go and read The Firm, The Client, or Pelican Brief. Do not let this book to prejudice you!
Grisham has made a bold attempt to break away from the legal world he was covering so vividly in his previous books. It is reasonable enough for any author to try it some time sooner or later. But, here he has not succeeded.
Having said the bad stuff, The Testament is not a bad work. It is interesting and well written book. A unique story.
And the religious stuff in the book does not appeal me much. (But it may, some othersso this is a very personal view). Though it is not the job of the reviewer to judge the moral aspects of a fiction, still reading about the ‘white’ characters of missionaries in this book, I am compelled to make a single comment: “Why don’t they think for a moment that there may be other good things in this wide world
