THIS is the first book in the Narnian series by C S Lewis (written for children, but appreciated by adults, as well.) Like many, however, the first book I actually read, was THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE. Having read and re-read them in one order, then the reverse; I feel the early introduction of Narnia, land of talking creatures -- animals, dwarfs, and fawns, already in existence, and the idea that one could gain entrance through the most ordinary of objects, a wardrobe, more rapidly caught and held my attention. My guess is that because Narnia is introduced earlier in the latter, you are more likely to get involved in reading the series of you read the second book first, and this one second, especially in this day and age.
That said and done, Polly and Diggory`s adventure is still quite a story. The dawning of Narnia, created through the lion`s song, and reminiscent of the first bits of Genesis, is quite wondrous, as are the way in which the animals gain the gift
