Politics and the English Language の感想

If one hears young people use very bad language, one is inclined to think that it is ascribed to the corruption of the young people. At least one is disposed to think that it is not the language itself but the person using it that is to blame.
But in this essay, Orwell points out that if thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought, and that a bad usage can spread by tradition and imitation, even among people who should and do know better.
I think I can make it more understandable by explaining in Japanese.
　何年か前に、『私は、片づけが出来ない人ですから、、』とか、『私は、朝早く起きれない人ですから、、、』とか、そういう言い方がはやった。何でもない言い方のように聞こえるが、そこには、自分という人間は、そんなもんだと決めつけて、それを直していこうという姿勢の放棄が感じられる。つまり、無意識のうちに、流行にのって、そういう言い方を使っていくと、それを使う人間の考え方そのものも、いつのまにか改善しようとする力を失なうということを言っているんだと思う。
